its a maimai-kaburi is a beetle that predates snails the name means snail head because it uses the head to break the shell of the snail and eat it... he has strong jaws so imagine what he would do to the delicate skin of a koyukkuri

Pretty sure they just dip their head in and grab the snail's soft parts and eat them.

They eat the snails alive inside its shell, nibbling it bit by bit. I love how the artist draw his butt beetle to have the shape and the behaviour of the actual scaphinotus beetle.

I know. The only beetles that do bite through the shells are the greek ones that bite through the new shells of recently moulted snails kill and eat the snails and use the shell as a temporary home. That is it.

I doubt other beetles trouble themselves with biting through old solid calcium. I doubt there are bettles that have wasps or spiders liquifying venom so them eating through shells are even less likely though there might be instances where diseased snails can have soft or malformed shells but you cannot really claim that these beetles are strong because of that.

With that said 9th's beetles would probably cut through the typical yukkuri skin as yukkuri skin magically seem to turn to a wet 1 ply of very poor quality tissue paper in most abyuse stories when a moment ago they are dragging their bodies over rough surfaces and jumping three times their height just going around >_>
